Defibrillator S ICD System without wires placed inside heart vein

US FDA approves novel defibrillation device which don’t require its wire ( lead ) to be inserted in to heart vein

Cardiac arrests are major causes for loss of lives around the globe. In case of sudden cardiac arrest or cardiac arrhythmia, stimuli of lower intensity electric impulse can save lives, bringing back heart to normal functioning this is also known as defibrillation therapy.

Some patients with arrhythmia are susceptible for sudden arrest and cardiac arrhythmia therefore there is great need for devices which provide a stimuli (defibrillation therapy) as and when in situation of crisis of cardiac arrhythmia. These devices are placed surgically in to patients body with one or two wires (leads ) of these devices directly entering in to vein supplying blood to heart (transvenou leads) .

In some patients these wires (leads) may cause complications like fibrosis in areas of direct contact with vein and heart tissue vasculature and myocardium over the period of time damaging heart vasculature and heart tissue.

Cameron Health Inc have developed a Subcutaneous Implantable Defibrillator (S-ICD) System which do not require its wires(lead) to be implanted in to veins , instead it is just require subcutaneous implantation with its electrod placed parallel to the left sternal border, and do not require any surgical procedure involving patient’s blood vessels or heart. This device detect any abnormal heart activity and provides electric impulse to heart.

The device is equally effective as regular defibrillator implants. This device will be helpful for patients who suffer from complications with transvenous lead.

There are some contraindications for the device as well which are symptomatic bradycardia, incessant ventricular tachycardia.
