Autoclave cleaning standard operating procedure:

OBJECTIVE :-

The autoclave which is used for sterilisation of media, equipment, glasswares and gowns needs to be cleaned It is necessary to clean it to increase the efficiency of the surface of the heating coil and the vessels as the scaling of inner vessel as well as heating coil takes place

UNIT OF RESPONSIBILITY :- Q A Executive and Trained Q A Assistants

NOTE :

1 The scaling of the inner vessel takes place and also the heating coil may get damaged

due to scaling on the heating coil

2 Care must be taken while cleaning the heating coil

PROCEDURE :-

1) Empty the autoclave by decanting the water into the basin

2) Remove the inner vessel of the autoclave

3) With the help of the water flush Clean the inner surface of autoclave, if necessary

make use of brush to remove the scales that may be present on the inner surface

autoclave Also clean the outer surface of the heating coil taking care of not damaging

the heating coil

4) Put fresh water into the autoclave for the further autoclaving of the next load

5) Cleaning record is recorded in the attachment
